Summer is Here!

School is out, the weather is warm, and we just celebrated our nation's 230th birthday - it must be summer! During this season many of us spend more time outdoors and often plan large and small vacations.  It is good to schedule intentional periods for rest and relaxation which revive and rejuvenate us for our many family, community, vocational, and congregational responsibilities.

While many of our church programs recess for the summer, the following continue:

Worship each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. in the air-conditioned parlor.  This is a less formal and more intimate style of worship.  We are again wearing name tags this summer and taking time during worship to meet and get to know each other by name.  A time to further meet and greet follows the service during Social Hour.

Bible Study each Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. in the air-conditioned kitchen.  Participants are invited to bring their lunch.  Beginning July 11, the group will study some of the more famous people in the Old Testament.  The group will not meet August 8 - September 5 while Pastor Dominy is on vacation.

Feeding Ministry - we serve a meal to our hungry neighbors on the third Friday of each month as part of Bread of Life's meal program. (Our building is used every Friday for BOL's meal.)

So the ministry and mission of First Baptist continues throughout the summer!

While summer is a good time to "recharge our batteries," this should also include drawing closer to God.  The prophet Isaiah wrote:

"Those who trust in the Lord for help, will find their strength renewed.
They will rise on wings like eagles;
They will run and not get weary;
They will walk and not grow weak." (Isaiah 40:31 TEV)

Allow God to refresh your body, mind, and spirit!  Seek refreshment for your entire being during these summer months.

If you are in the area on Sunday mornings or Tuesday middays, I encourage you to join us for our worship and study opportunities as we draw closer to God and seek renewal.

Have a wonderful summer!

Pastor Martha Dominy
