LAYPERSON OF THE YEAR
2005

The Church Council has selected two people - a couple -to be recognized as Laypersons for 2005 - Frank and Irene Hofmann. Missions is extremely important to both of these active and dedicated church members, as you will note from some of the many ways they serve their Lord through our church:

Irene  has served on the Mission Board and is currently secretary of the Board of Trustees; she is also Leader of Group "Q" and treasurer of the American Baptist Women's Ministries.  Each spring Irene coordinates our Blanket and Tools of Hope Sundays for Church World Service.  She also provides leadership to Church Women United of Malden/Melrose.  In addition to being the alto soloist/section leader for the Sanctuary Choir, Irene shares her vocal talent for many other services and programs at the church.

Frank has served as Vice Chair of the Diaconate and is currently a member of the Board of Christian Mission; he is also Head Usher, and was the leader of the Men and Boys Group.

As one nominator wrote, "Whenever there is work to be done, a board opening, a group to be formed... Frank is always there.  A hard and productive worker, he truly cares about the First Baptist Church of Malden.

As a couple, Irene and Frank volunteer at our monthly Feeding Ministry meal, attend the Tuesday morning Bible study, and are always willing to lend helping hands for cleaning and work projects around the church and grounds, especially decorating the Parlor for the Christmas season.  In nominating this couple, another person wrote: "Irene and Frank are always present at any and all church events.  They have been tireless workers - true, faithful servants of the Lord and we have been blessed by their presence."

Frank and Irene have been members of First Baptist for 19 years and continue to find new ways to serve and involve others in the life, ministry, and mission of our congregation.  It is a pleasure that we recognize them as Laypersons of the Year for 2005.  We will thank and honor them during the worship service and catered lunch on Sunday, June 5.  Tickets ($10.00) for the lunch will be available during Social Hour on May 22 and 29.
