"The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it."
John 1:5

In recent weeks the media has been filled with the debate over changing the date when Daylight Saving Time begins.  We have heard from early morning risers complaining that it is again dark outside when they get up, to those who enjoy the extra daylight in the evening to travel home from work, to shop or exercise, etc.  It's amazing how much light affects our physical and emotional lives.

The same is also true for our spiritual lives. Jesus once told His followers:  " I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life" John 8:12.  And on another occasion He told them: "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" John 9:5.  Jesus is the light of the world and the light of life. Whenever we are feeling dark inside, or sense darkness closing in around us, it is good to turn to Jesus, the Light.

We are approaching the "darkest week" as well as the "brightest day" of our church year.

Have you ever driven through a dark tunnel and sensed the bright sunshine more intensely after leaving the tunnel than before entering it?  The message of Easter is something to celebrate each and everyday.  But Easter's radiance becomes even stronger when we journey with Jesus through the darkness of Holy Week.

I invite and encourage you to join with members of our church family as we journey through Holy Week this year by participating in some of the events and then plan to join us on Easter morning as we celebrate the new life offered to each of us through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
