Do You Have Plans for Lent?

Lent, the season of preparation leading to Easter, begins on Ash Wednesday, February 25.  This six-week period is often a time for prayer, reflection and meditation on the price Jesus paid for us by dying on the cross.  One way some people try to personalize and focus on the theme of sacrifice is by denying themselves or "giving up" some pleasurable thing for the Lenten Season.

Sometimes it is a bad habit, or a favorite food or activity.  A slightly different approach to observe Lent is to add some action or behavior that is beneficial for us.  Whether we remove or add something to our lives during the Lenten season, we may arrive at Easter as healthier and more whole individuals - in body, mind and spirit.

As individuals and families, we have an opportunity to deepen our spiritual life during Lent by devoting 28 minutes each day to listen to the Bible.  Those in worship on February 15 received a digital audio recording of the New Testament that is divided into forty segments (one segment per day, excluding Sundays, during Lent).  Those who commit themselves to this discipline will have heard the entire New Testament by Easter Sunday.  The Psalmist wrote that God's Word was a lamp to his feet and a light to his path.  We find light for our lives during this Lenten Season.
